Description de Paris la noire

Special Branch T5 - Paris la Noire is a graphic novel that takes place in April 1889, where the Special Branch is tasked with investigating the individuals behind an attack on the See Horse ship, which was en route to the World's Fair in Paris. The guilty parties demand a ransom of twenty tons of gold, threatening to attack Paris if it is not paid. Terrorists have already attacked Paris, and mysterious symbols have been found, leading Special Branch to determine the culprits while avoiding traps.

Critique de Paris la noire

While the pacing within the graphic novel is effective, the overall narrative falls flat. Hamo's art style is enjoyable, but the plot fails to engage the reader wholly. The mixture of suspense and humor in the story is present but feels lackluster. The use of historic figures such as Francis Galton, Karl Bodmer, and George Catlin adds an element of realism but doesn't add much relevance to the storyline. Unfortunately, the change of setting from London to Paris is not enough to keep the reader interested. The final moments of the graphic novel don't inspire enthusiasm for a potential sixth volume.
